New Year, New Resolutions

Categories:

We are entering a time when many think about resolutions for the new year. For us lovers of books, our resolution at the beginning of the year might be that we will strive to read more. Our goal is to come upon books that we can enjoy ourselves. But it’s even better if we can pass along those to others and enjoy them a second time in our discussions. The best books are memorable. They are the ones we talk about and may read again, perhaps several times. So here’s to discovering those books.

To help get you started here’s a list published by Goodreads. I like this list because the best books that came out in 2023 are voted on by readers. Some of them surprised me. The list provides us with more books to add to our TBR piles that we might have missed last year! If you are interested in books that won prizes in 2023, you might want to view this list of the books that took home 2023’s biggest literary prizes. I’m also passing along a list of suggested books for this winter season recommended by BookBub.

For this new year, Time magazine has published a list of 25 most anticipated books of 2024.

On January 1, 2024, we celebrate Public Domain Day. Here is the list of books, plays, films, and sound recordings that are free for all to use or build upon. When works go into the public domain, they can legally be shared, and copied without permission or fee. Happy Public Domain Day!

For your New Year’s resolution, consider joining a book club to be introduced to new friends and new books. The library’s book group Chat’n’Chew is always an option. January’s gathering is scheduled for January 17th from 12:00 pm to 2:30 pm. We offer the option of meeting in person or connecting virtually with Google Meet. Register on the calendar on our website and you will receive the link for the meeting.
