“June is the gateway to summer.” by Jean Hersey Greetings lovers of summer. We are halfway through this year, can you believe it? So, summer is upon us and even though many of you are looking ahead to some planned summer vacations, if you are readers, you are also thinking about what books to pack or ebooks or audiobooks to put on hold. So I’ve got some suggested lists to help with that.
The Must-Read titles in the 23rd Annual Massbook Awards were announced at the Massachusetts Library Association conference in Falmouth in early May. You can view this and last year’s winners here. You may not know the history behind this list. The Massachusetts Book Awards recognize significant works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, translated literature, and children’s/young adult literature written, illustrated, or translated by current Commonwealth residents. Nominations are submitted each fall and close at the end of the calendar year.
I am also passing along the Reading Group Choices suggested titles of the month. Reading Group Choices publish short lists of favorites and recommended books for those in book groups. You can register if you are in a book group, like Chat’n’Chew, and take advantage of their book giveaways. Who doesn’t like a free book?
Don’t forget to set aside some time for our Chat’n’Chew book group meeting on June 21st at 12:30 PM in the Ellsworth room in the Library. We will be taking a short break for the summer to accommodate vacations, so the 21st will be our last meeting until September. Come and join us and chat about what book stood out for you this past month.
Happy Reading!
