Official Library Expansion Project Information and Updates
Hopkinton Public Library is a vital part of our community. Built in 1895, the library has been an icon of downtown Hopkinton for generations. The last renovation of our library was in 1967 expanding to the current size of 5,783 square feet.
The need for a new library to service the town's current and future needs, especially with respect to accessibility, actual floor space for seating, program areas, technology upgrades, book collections, media and other printed collections, has been widely recognized by the residents and the town leadership.
In 2010, the town had an unique opportunity to apply for a library construction grant through the state. The town established a five member Permanent Building Committee to start the application submission process by recruiting an architectural farm to evaluate site selection, create a schematic design for renovating and expanding the current library.
At the Annual Town Meeting on May 3rd, 2011, a majority vote approved the preliminary library building design and rezoning of library property from Residential A to Downtown Business District allowing an expansion of the current library. The grant application was submitted and the library received a $4.5 million in state construction grant in July 2011.


Hopkinton Public Library Foundation, Inc is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 2011 with the mission of raising private funds toward the renovation and expansion of Hopkinton Library. As of May 2014 the HPLF has raised approximately $500,000. Please visit the HPLF website to learn more about the foundation.

Hopkinton residents voted on May 5th and May 19th, 2014 to move the Library Renovation & Expansion Project forward with a $4.5 million construction grant from the state. Hopkinton Public Lbrary Foundation, Inc. (HPLF) raised $800,000 through private donations as of October 2016.
